CCT | Right-of-Way Installations | Mayoral and Council Elections

Hello Neighbors,

CCT Environmental Assessment
The Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Corridor Cities Transitway is now available for public comment. The nine mile, 13-station Bus Rapid Transit will run between the Shady Grove Metro and Metropolitan Grove MARC Stations, going through or alongside the residential communities of King Farm, Crown, Washingtonian Woods, Kentlands/Lakelands, and Parklands. The EA can be viewed online and is also available at the Gaithersburg and Germantown Libraries and at the Montgomery County Council Office Building. Comments must be submitted in writing by September 22, 2017. Click here for submission details.

Additionally, for the most up to date information on the community’s ongoing efforts, please visit the Sensible CCT Facebook page. It is updated quite regularly by Washingtonian Woods resident and neighbor Lisa Cline.

Right-of-Way Installations – Comment Sought
Legislation was introduced on August 21 to regulate installations in Gaithersburg’s public rights-of-way, particularly from companies looking to install telecommunications and wireless equipment and facilities. The regulations address all uses of rights-of-way to codify existing practices, but also to implement new standards for telecommunications facilities. A public hearing will be held on the matter on Monday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. Comment can be made at the meeting or can be submitted in writing to [email protected]. Explore the topic here.

Deadline for Mayor, Council Candidates
Gaithersburg voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, November 7 to elect a Mayor and two City Council Members. The deadline for candidates to file for this election is 5 p.m., September 22. If you are interested in running for office you must submit an application that includes the signatures of at least 100 registered voters within the City of Gaithersburg. Candidates must be a City resident and must file financial and employment disclosure statements to ensure compliance with the City’s Ethics Ordinance. The Gaithersburg Board of Supervisors of Elections is scheduled to certify candidates on September 26. Find complete election information, including early voting dates and absentee ballot instructions, here.

InGaithersburg eNewsletter
The above information was also previously shared to subscribers of the Gaithersburg “InGaithersburg eNewsletter”. For those interested in staying more up to date on all things Gaithersburg, feel free to sign up for the newsletter here.

New Neighborhood Street Lights | Tree Pruning

Hello Neighbors,

As some of you may have already noticed, the City of Gaithersburg and Pepco have been recently been working to install additional street lamps throughout our neighborhood. The lights should be fully installed in the next week or so; and then it might be several more weeks before they are “powered up” by Pepco and become fully functional.

This is part of a $134,000 infill lighting project that the City of Gaithersburg approved back in 2014. When originally built, our neighborhood’s street lights were too far apart by modern standards. The City of Gaithersburg has funded this project at the request of the HOA to address that issue. The new lights will match the existing lights, and the additional light posts should make our neighborhood lighter at night, and safer as a result.

Click here if you would like to see a map of the new light post locations.

In addition to the additional lights, the City of Gaithersburg will also be pruning trees throughout the neighborhood as well in an effort to improve visibility and safety.

Thank you,
Glenn Watts

Food Truck Friday | Dive-in Movie | Adults Only Night

Hello Neighbors,

Holy Crepes Food Truck Friday Postponed
Unfortunately, due to Friday’s weather forecast, the Holy Crepes food truck previously scheduled for Friday evening at the pool has been postponed. We are working to coordinate an alternate date, and will keep everyone informed once one has been confirmed.

However, we do still have several more social events planned for this summer!

End-of-Summer Dive-In Movie & Raft Party
Saturday, August 26th, 4:30pm – 10:00pm

The HOA and Social Committee are hosting the annual End-of-Summer party, complete with food and refreshments. A kid-friendly, Dive-in movie will be shown at sunset. Rafts are allowed, music will be flowing and we hope everyone will come out for a great evening. Stay tuned for more info!

Adults-Only Evening at the Pool
Friday, Sept. 8th, 7:00pm – 10:00pm

You asked, and we listened! The pool will be closing to kids at 6:45pm so that the adults can sneak out and have some fun! More details to come, but there will be plenty of music, some poolside games (& prizes!) and time to wind down after a busy summer.

We have several new families in the neighborhood, please reach out to your new neighbors and invite them to join the fun. Hope to see you soon!

Thank you,

Championship Swim Meet on Saturday | Heavy Parking | Reduced Pool Hours

Hello Neighbors,

The Washingtonian Woods Waves swim season comes to an end this Saturday at the MCSL Division M Championship Meet — also known as ‘Divisionals’.  This meet features all 5 teams from M Division swimming at the same pool for the final meet of the season.

This year the Divisionals meet will be held at Washingtonian Woods.

The purpose of this email is to inform the neighborhood that due to this meet, numerous additional cars will be in the neighborhood between the hours of 7AM and 1PM, Saturday, July 22nd.  The swimmers and families of all 5 teams have already been informed avoid parking in any “Reserved” spaces in the Vistas parking lot, and to preferably park in any legal spots along Midsummer Drive or Upshire Circle.  The team plans to have parking lot attendants on hand to help control parking as best is as possible.

In addition to the pool opening late tomorrow to accommodate this meet, the pool will also be closing early for the annual Swim Team Banquet, which is also being held tomorrow evening. The pool will be open from 12 noon until 4 pm tomorrow. Tomorrow’s pool schedule concludes the last of the modified pool hours, which can be found posted on the bulletin board at the pool, as well as here: https://www.washwoods.org/pool/. As of Sunday July 23rd, the pool will resume normal daily hours for the remainder of the season.

We apologize in advance for the reduced pool hours tomorrow, and we appreciate both your support and understanding.  And, feel free to come cheer on the Waves!

Thank you,
Glenn Watts
Board of Directors, Washingtonian Woods HOA

Reminder: Neighborhood 4th of July Parade, BBQ and Pool Party | Prizes! Food! Games! Contests!

Hello Neighbors,

Just a friendly reminder that the our very first neighborhood 4th of July Parade, BBQ and Pool Party, will be held tomorrow, July 4th!

Here is the quick run-down:

  1. The festivities start at 11am and continue until 4pm.
  2. The event is rain-or-shine. Hopefully the rain will hold off until later in the day. Let’s all think happy thoughts, and hope for a good weather window.
  3. We are asking that families bring a side dish to share at the BBQ. The HOA will be providing burgers, dogs, sodas and desserts.
  4. A few volunteers are still needed. Please check out our sign-up genius and consider filling an empty slot. All help is greatly appreciated and will help ensure a successful event.
  5. If you happen to live along the 100 block of Upshire Circle, we kindly ask that you avoid on-street parking during the parade window of 11am – 12 noon, if possible.

Please see below for our full Schedule of Events:

Red, White & Blue Parade (11:00 am – 12 noon)

Time to don your proudest red, white & blue, and decorate those bicycles, strollers, big wheels, scooters, wagons and pets! We’ll be marching as a group from the Tot Lot at Driscoll and Upshire all the way down to the pool. Feel free to decorate your bikes and scooters beforehand, or meet at the park at 11:00am to decorate onsite (we will have some decorations on hand.) The parade starts promptly at 11:30am. If you can’t march in the parade, feel free to come out and grab a spot along the parade route to enjoy the parade and show your support.

All neighbors are also encouraged to fly your American flags!

BBQ, Pool Party, Games, Prizes  (12 pm – 4 pm)
Food, Games, Prizes 12pm – 2pm;  Raft Party 2pm – 4pm
We’ll be grilling up plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs for all to enjoy, free of charge. We’ll also be providing sodas, water, and desserts. We are encouraging neighbors to bring side dishes for all to share. Games will include relay races, pie-eating contests, water balloon toss, belly-flop contests, and more! Prizes for the winners! Come on out and join the fun!

Please note: the pool party and BBQ is a private event, exclusively for members of the neighborhood (Washingtonian Woods, The Oaks and The Vistas), their families, as well as outside members of the pool.

Volunteers
Unfortunately, we can’t pull this endeavor off with a tremendous level of effort from the community. We are actively seeking neighbors to help volunteer to make this event a success. We need parade marshalls, grillmasters, game & contest volunteers, and people to help assist with food setup and take down. Please take a moment to visit our sign-up genius and sign up for an available slot. It’s a great way to socialize with and meet your neighbors. Come help us make this an event that everyone will enjoy, remember, and look forward to each year.

Happy Birthday, America! Hope to see you all there!

Thank you,
Glenn Watts
